Transplantat Renale au Burkina Faso: Une Premi¨re Salu©e par le Premier Ministre

Ouagadougou: Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo received a delegation from the medical team that successfully performed the first kidney transplant in Burkina Faso on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. The delegation was accompanied by the couple who benefited from this major procedure. The delegation was presented to the Head of Government by the Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean Claude Kargougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this meeting provided the Head of Government with the opportunity to commend this historic medical achievement, which took place on July 29, 2025, marking a decisive step forward in the treatment of kidney failure in the country.

The Prime Minister congratulated the entire medical team for their professionalism, commitment, and strong sense of duty, while also offering his encouragement and best wishes for good health to the first couple formed by the donor and recipient, pioneers and symbols of hope and national solidarity. In a deeply moving moment, the Director General of the Tengandogo University Hospital Center, Dr. Lin Somda, outlined the main challenges associated with kidney transplantation, including the supply of medications, financing of the donation, and post-operative care. These concerns were given careful consideration by the Prime Minister.

Reassuring his interlocutors, the Head of Government reaffirmed the Government's full commitment to continuing to strengthen the national technical infrastructure and human resources in order to guarantee broader access to specialized care. He emphasized that the authorities' ambition is to make Burkina Faso a leading country in healthcare technology, with a firm commitment to health sovereignty. "Beyond nephrology, the Government is ready to support all initiatives aimed at the sustainable improvement of healthcare services and the achievement of health sovereignty," stated Dr. Lin Somda, reporting the Prime Minister's remarks.

The Head of Government also encouraged strengthened collaboration between public and private institutions, in order to pool skills, resources, and expertise for the benefit of the population.
