Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo received a delegation from the medical team that successfully performed Burkina Faso's first kidney transplant. The meeting, held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, included the couple who benefited from the procedure, and was organized by the Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean Claude Kargougou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Prime Minister took the opportunity to acknowledge this historic medical achievement, which occurred on July 29, 2025. This milestone represents a significant advancement in the treatment of kidney failure within the country. The Prime Minister praised the medical team's professionalism and dedication, while extending his well-wishes to the donor and recipient couple, who symbolize hope and national solidarity.
During an emotional segment of the meeting, the transplant recipient expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Captain Ibrahim Traore for investing in the health sector and to the medical team whose expertise enables her return to normalcy. Dr. Lin Somda, Director General of the Tengandogo University Hospital Centre, highlighted the primary challenges of kidney transplantation, including medication supply, funding, and post-operative care.
The Prime Minister attentively acknowledged these challenges, reaffirming the Government's commitment to enhancing technical infrastructure and national human resources to ensure broader access to specialized care.
