Ouagadougou: The 4th edition of the Tuy cultural days took place on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in the commune of Boni under the theme: "Protection and enhancement of cultural heritage in Tuy: lever for the development of cultural industries and the integration of communities".
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was initiated by the Lande Yave du Tuy association (ALYT) and witnessed a strong turnout from administrative and customary authorities, local populations, and festival-goers from various localities within the province. The opening ceremony included speeches and performances from artistic troupes, notably the Lambeyoro troupe from Dohoun and the Zanghoni troupe. A parade highlighted fiber masks from Boni, leaf masks from Bansie, and distinctive masks from Mamou.
The Chairman of the organizing committee, Nestor Kahoun, noted that the festival had previously been interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a security crisis. He emphasized that this 4th edition marks a symbolic restart, reflecting the aspiration to rejuvenate the cultural dynamic in Tuy despite ongoing challenges. "Through this edition, we want to create a real framework for raising awareness, transmitting and promoting the cultural heritage of Tuy," Mr. Kahoun explained. He further stated that the initiative aims to both reinforce local populations' connection with their cultural heritage and to position culture as a catalyst for economic and social development.
Arouna Tarnagda, the President of the special municipal delegation of Boni, reiterated the municipality's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote culture, heritage, local tourism, peace, and community solidarity. He expressed hope that the edition would enhance the visibility of cultural and tourist assets and foster a new wave of enthusiasm for their protection and promotion.
The event's patron, Apolline Traore, thanked the organizing committee for the honor and commended their resilience. She highlighted the significance of celebrating heritage, valuing traditions, and passing on foundational societal values to younger generations.
High Commissioner Issiaka Segda, who led the ceremony, praised the organizers for their efforts to spotlight the province's cultural wealth. He remarked that beyond celebrating traditions, the initiative serves as an educational platform for imparting cultural, moral, and civic values to the youth.
