UEMOA: Member States want to pool their actions to guarantee access to water for populations

Ouagadougou: The ministers in charge of Water and Sanitation of the member states of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) met on Friday for a synergy of actions with a view to to improve access to Water and Sanitation for the populations of the region.'This meeting is intended to be a framework for discussing issues related to water in order to find solutions together to ensure drinking water for the populations of UEMOA,' indicated the representative of the Ivorian minister in charge of hydraulics, Germany Justine Gosse.Ms. Gosse spoke on Friday July 12, 2024 in Ouagadougou during the meeting of ministers in charge of water resources and sanitation of UEMOA member states, devoted to examining the conclusions and recommendations of experts.According to Allegne Justine Gosse, objective 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is to 'guarantee universal and equitable access to drinking water and sanitation by 2030', cannot be achieved by within UEMOA only if member states pool their efforts.For the Director General of Water Resources of Burkina, Wendmi Ciprien Tizambo, this meeting is a framework for sharing experiences which allows each country to learn from others in the implementation of Objective 6.For him, Burkina recorded an improved access rate to drinking water of 78.3% in 2023.Source: Burkina Information Agency
