ULBO Community Encouraged to Support Innovations by Minister Thiombiano

Ulbo: The university community is invited to fully embrace ongoing innovations. As part of his national tour, the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MERSI), Professor Adjima Thiombiano, was on Friday, February 20, 2026, facing the community of the L©d©a Bernard Ou©draogo University (ULBO), where he engaged stakeholders in providing frank support for the innovations undertaken, AIB observed.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister Thiombiano was accompanied by the governor of the Yaadga region, Thomas Yampa, and met with faculty and administrative staff to discuss structural reforms and the challenges facing the institution. The aim of this visit was to foster the commitment of the entire university community to fully embrace the ongoing innovations.

Minister Thiombiano commended the leadership of ULBO President Professor Adama Ou©da for ensuring the smooth running of the academic year for over three years and congratulated all those involved for their past sacrifices. He took the opportunity to outline the profound transformations underway in the Burkinab¨ education system.

Regarding the educational overhaul, there was talk of a revision of the syllabi, a new curriculum and specialization of the IESR. "Our ambition is not to train graduates but competent people," he emphasized.

Regarding research support, the minister's remarks revealed a shift towards themes of national interest through Joint Research Teams (EMR) and the Special Contribution for Research and Innovation (CORI) to address financial challenges. Discussions concerning staff focused on professional examinations, career management, staff transfers, and improving connectivity (Wi-Fi).

The students' grievances related to financial support, facilitating student movement between universities, and eliminating the thesis defense in the professional bachelor's degree year.

To support this momentum, the minister noted that ULBO benefits from the Quality Education Initiative (IPEQ), with the construction of two lecture halls (500 seats each). He also announced the acquisition of over 530 buses nationwide to improve student mobility.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Professor Adjima Thiombiano called on young people to become agents of change. "You should take order and discipline, culminating in a strong work ethic, as your guiding principles," he said. He urged everyone to cultivate patriotism, discipline, and solidarity so that the university becomes an essential component of Burkina Faso's development.
