Village Observatories Established to Manage Community Conflicts in Sissili

Sissili: The Department of Silly hosted, from March 23 to 28, 2026, an installation and training session for members of the Village Observatories for the Prevention and Management of Community Conflicts (OVPREGECC). This initiative, which involved six villages, aims to equip local populations with endogenous tools to anticipate and peacefully resolve conflicts.According to Burkina Information Agency, the activity was led by the Prefect of the Silly department, Christophe Bonkoungou, who is also President of the Departmental Observatory (ODPREGECC). He was accompanied by Luc Emmanuel Sanon, Police Commissioner, member of the ODPREGECC and co-trainer, and the representative of the Regional Director of Human Rights of Nando, Daouda Nombre.The villages of Diarra, Ladio, Bredie, Nevri, Tonon, and Silly have officially established their observatories. During the opening ceremony, the president of the ODPREGECC emphasized the timely nature of this initiative. Mr. Bonkoungou stated that this revitalization of vil lage observatories is essential for a holistic approach to addressing daily disputes."This activity will equip members with the necessary skills to anticipate conflicts and work effectively towards social cohesion," he declared.The beneficiaries, through Diasso Batio, President of the Village Development Committee (CVD) of Diarra, and Konate Saïdou, Chief of the village of Bredie, welcomed this initiative by the authorities. "No one can resolve our conflicts better than we can," they affirmed, while pledging to work honestly and prioritize conciliation and amicable settlements to preserve peaceful coexistence.The training was structured around two main modules. The first presentation, given by Prefect Christophe Bonkoungou, focused on the composition, missions, role, and operation of the National Observatory (ONAPREGECC) and its branches. The second presentation, delivered by Luc Emmanuel Sanon, highlighted conflict prevention and resolution techniques, including conciliation, mediation, and the use of joking relationships. Participants were reminded that social cohesion is the essential foundation for all development, as community conflicts are often the source of serious human rights violations.The representative of the Regional Directorate of Human Rights, Daouda Nombre, expressed his satisfaction with the mobilization and discipline shown by the participants.At the end of the six-day tour, the president of the Departmental Observatory presented a positive and satisfactory assessment, commending the OVPREGECC members for their effective use of the training modules. These sessions mark an important step in the endogenous pacification strategy for the localities within the municipality of Silly, focusing on the prevention and management of community conflicts.
