Ouagadougou: The Directorate General for African Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad organized an upgrading session focused on sub-regional integration for vocational school trainees and officials from departments involved in integration dynamics. The session took place on Friday, May 23, 2025, and aimed to provide participants with essential insights into the free movement of people and goods.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Ambassador Issa BANCE, Technical Advisor to the Minister Delegate for Regional Cooperation, inaugurated the session. He emphasized the importance of understanding challenges associated with sub-regional integration, a priority for Burkina Faso, which participates in several organizations, including UEMOA, the Liptako Gourma Authority, and the Confederation of Sahel States.
Ambassador BANCE highlighted the commitment of President Captain Ibrahim TRAORE towards prioritizing sub-regional integration. Despite geopolitical changes and new partnerships through the AES, the focus remains on economic and technological interdependence, promoting unity and cooperation among states.
He stressed the responsibility to build a united and prosperous sub-region, ensuring citizens benefit from residence and establishment rights, and businesses thrive in environments conducive to exchange and innovation. The session reaffirmed the AES Heads of State's commitment to fostering free movement and harmonious development within the confederal space.
The session covered various themes, including the current state of sub-regional integration, cultural contributions, and youth's role in fostering integration.
