Wolokonto Teachers Enhance Skills in Bilingual Education

Wolokonto:School principals and teachers of CP1 classes in the Basic Education District of Wolokonto are participating in a training session focused on bilingual and multilingual education in Burkina Faso. The session, which began on Monday, September 28, 2026, is chaired by Innocent Ibrahim Sanou, the Head of the primary studies office of the Wolokonto CEB.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ten-day training aims to strengthen the skills of educational stakeholders, promoting the implementation of a harmonized approach to bilingual and multilingual education and enhancing the overall quality of teaching.

Throughout the training, participants will learn to transcribe and teach subjects within the framework of bilingual education in line with the current harmonized formula in Burkina Faso. The training intends to prepare teachers for effective application of the "Reference Framework for Bilingual Education in Burkina Faso, Primary Cycle" and to help them apply their newly acquired knowledge in their schools.

The harmonized formula prioritizes national languages, regarded as learners' first languages, while gradually integrating the official language into the educational process. This approach supports the complementary use of both languages, defining it as bi-plurilingual education.

Recognizing the significance of this training for the education system, the chief inspector of the Primary Studies Office urged participants to engage diligently and with commitment to fully grasp the training's content and effectively implement it in their classrooms.
