Banwa: A woman was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Criminal Chamber of the High Court of Yako for the murder of her co-wife’s three-year-old daughter. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the tragic incident dates back to April 12, 2022, when the little girl disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Her disappearance triggered an extensive search operation by her family and the local community. Suspicions soon arose concerning the child’s mother’s co-wife, with whom she had a contentious relationship.
During the investigation conducted by the Yako gendarmerie, OA, the accused, confessed to the crime. She admitted her intention to harm her co-wife by targeting her child. Taking advantage of her co-wife’s absence, who had gone to the market, OA reportedly transported the girl by bicycle to a nearby orchard. There, she pushed the child into a well and returned home, leaving the family and community in shock.
The Criminal Chamber, after examining the evidence and facts, upheld the charge of murder with premeditation. Consequently, the court sentenced OA to life imprisonment, the maximum penalty for this crime under the law. This verdict concludes a case that significantly impacted public sentiment in the province of Passor©.
