Ouagadougou: The president of the special delegation of the municipality of Djibasso, Youssouf Diallo, chaired a women's cycling race aimed at enhancing social cohesion and community living in Djibasso. This event was organized as part of the Catholic Organization for Development and Solidarity (OCADES) activities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the inaugural edition of the race featured approximately fifty women competing on a 1,600-meter circuit. The event took place on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, starting in front of the Wend-Konta bakery and concluding at the customs post.
Barbara Dembel© emerged as the winner, completing the circuit in 3 minutes and 58 seconds and earning a prize of 15,000 CFA francs. Mariam Dembel© secured second place with a prize of 10,000 CFA francs, followed by Sarah Dembel© from Ouroko, who received 7,500 CFA francs. Sandrine Traor© from Samekuy and Denise Kienou from Bouakuy finished in fourth and fifth places, receiving 5,000 and 2,500 CFA francs, respectively. The remaining 45 participants were awarded 1,000 CFA francs each as a token of encouragement.
OCADES project coordinator Father Alexandre Taro highlighted that the race was part of a broader emergency relief initiative aiding the parish. He noted that the project encompasses multiple activities, including nutritional support for internally displaced persons and underprivileged communities through food donations, as well as efforts to combat child malnutrition by providing nutritional supplements.
Following the race, organizers and participants gathered for a community meal, reinforcing the event's focus on unity and togetherness.
