Workers Commemorate Labor Day in Gayeri Amid Security Challenges

Gayeri: Workers in the commune of Gayeri celebrated Labor Day on Friday, May 1, 2026, in a spirit of resilience, marked by discussions on their working conditions and the challenges related to the security context.According to Burkina Information Agency, the event took place at the Gayeri A school where public administration agents, education stakeholders, and health personnel gathered to share concerns and present grievances to local authorities. The ceremony featured a message from the General Confederation of Labor of Burkina Faso (CGT-B), emphasizing the defense of workers' rights, improving working conditions, and enhancing social dialogue amid national security and socio-economic challenges.The commemoration included presentations on the history of the trade union movement and the responsibilities of workers. A communication on the rights and duties of public servants, especially in the context of security challenges, was led by Mr. Lompo Abdoul Karim, head of the Basic Education District (CCEB) of Bartiebougou, along with Mr. Prosper Ouedraogo of the CEB of Foutouri.In addition, Combary Namoussa, deputy secretary general of the trade union sub-section, revisited the origin and evolution of trade unionism, focusing on its role in defending workers' interests, particularly during socio-political changes.The High Commissioner of the province of Komondjari, Mr. Gnanou Valentin, visited the ceremony to congratulate the workers for their mobilization, encourage them in their missions, and wish them a happy Labor Day. Meanwhile, the provincial director in charge of preschool, primary, and non-formal education in Komondjari, Mr. Yatenyoua Lucien Ouoba, sent a message to education stakeholders, extending Labor Day greetings to all "servants of the people" in the province, especially teachers.Mr. Ouoba acknowledged the challenges in the education sector, noting the undervaluation of the teaching profession, while praising the commitment and professionalism of those involved. He emphasized that this commitm ent contributes to community resilience and local development. He also congratulated the workers for their achievements despite the demanding context and urged them to continue their efforts with discipline and a sense of duty.The day's activities included moments of relaxation and cohesion, such as board games and a friendly match between education and health professionals.
