Yagma Pilgrimage 2026: Bishop Prosper Konti©bo Calls on Catholic Faithful to Be Missionaries for the Future

Ouagadougou: On the occasion of the celebration of 125 years of evangelization in Ouagadougou, held on Sunday, February 8 at the Notre-Dame de Yagma sanctuary, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Ouagadougou, Monsignor Prosper Konti©bo, called on the Catholic faithful to resolutely engage in a missionary dynamic for the future. 'I invite Christians to make this jubilee a time of meditation, gratitude, and above all, missionary zeal for the future,' declared the Metropolitan Archbishop of Ouagadougou, Monsignor Prosper Konti©bo.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the celebration of the 125th anniversary of evangelization in Ouagadougou is a moment of thanksgiving to the Lord for the work of the valiant missionaries who brought the Good News of Jesus Christ from Koup©la on June 25, 1901, at the cost of their lives.

In his homily, Bishop Prosper Konti©bo urged Catholic faithful to be the salt and light of their communities in the face of current challenges, following the example of Christ. He also emphasized the importance of the Cross and the awakening of faith in Christian life.

The celebration's theme was: "125 years of evangelization in Ouagadougou: let us give thanks to Christ, the foundation of our faith and the hope of the world." "The jubilee year of 125 years of evangelization in Ouagadougou, which will run from February 8, 2026 to February 7, 2027, will be marked in particular by the renovation of the Ouagadougou Cathedral," stated Bishop Konti©bo.

He also announced "the establishment of conferences on the history of evangelization and the awakening of faith, as well as the inauguration of three new parishes." This year's pilgrimage was also marked by the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the creation of the ecclesiastical province of Ouagadougou and by the closing of Lay Week.
