Ouagadougou: The YARGA and TINDANO families celebrated the day of joking kinship (Ciindi) on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Manni departmental grounds, under the theme: 'Joking kinship, a cultural heritage to build a united, secure and supportive Burkina Faso.'
According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative aims to promote the ancestral values of fraternity, tolerance, and solidarity, considered essential levers for strengthening social cohesion and peace in the current context of Burkina Faso. The ceremony brought together representatives of customary and religious authorities, administrative and security authorities, the YARGA and TINDANO families, as well as a large popular mobilization.
The festivities opened with a parade of the two main families. Through their traditional outfits, songs, dances, and cultural performances, the participants highlighted the values, skills, and identity symbols that characterize each of the two communities, in an atmosphere imbued with respect, conviviality, and fraternity.
On behalf of the YARGA family, Yarga Sibidi Jrmie humorously and eloquently recounted the historical foundations of the joking relationship that unites the YARGA and TINDANO families. He emphasized that this traditional alliance rests on bonds of trust, mutual respect, and support passed down through generations. Taking the floor next, Tindano Kanfoudi, representing the Tindano family, spoke, in the same spirit of humor and wisdom, about the origins of this fraternal relationship. He explained that the welcome once extended to the Yarga by the Tindano family gave rise to an alliance that has become a powerful traditional mechanism for conflict prevention, mediation, and strengthening community cohesion.
The speech by the patron, presented by the co-patron, Yahouri Issaka, called upon the population, particularly young people, to preserve and pass on this cultural heritage. He emphasized that joking relationships are an effective tool for bringing communities closer together and a valuable contribution to building a united, secure, and supportive Burkina Faso, in line with the theme chosen for this year's event.
The celebration continued with sporting activities between the two families. Much anticipated by the public, the women's football match saw the TINDANO family emerge victorious, in an atmosphere of healthy competition where fair play and fraternity prevailed over the spirit of rivalry. This victory paved the way for a fraternal reception with refreshments, offering authorities, guests, and local people a privileged setting for sharing and exchange, true to the spirit of the joke.
