Yatenga: Opinion Leaders from Barga and Koumbri Made Aware

Yatenga: Residents of the communes of Barga and Koumbri organized a day of awareness and training for opinion leaders of the two departments to facilitate the establishment of conflict resolution monitoring committees, AIB observed. This event was chaired by the governor of the Yaadga region, represented by his technical advisor, Yala Dahourou, who emphasized the importance of such gatherings in restoring peaceful coexistence and social cohesion in the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the governor's representative urged opinion leaders in both municipalities to act as catalysts for unity across Burkina Faso. Mr. Dahourou highlighted the necessity for these leaders to be equipped with tools that promote dialogue and mutual understanding, which are crucial for lasting peace.

The event saw active participation from the sons and daughters of the Barga and Koumbri communes, led by Lieutenant-Colonel Lassane Porgo, who is organizing their return to their homelands. The commander of the Second Military Region reiterated the importance of equipping opinion leaders with knowledge to foster peaceful coexistence between communities.

Lieutenant-Colonel Porgo noted that opinion leaders play a vital role in promoting constructive dialogue and reviving indigenous values in conflict resolution. He stressed the need for these leaders to unite populations in different localities, especially in the wake of the progressive and popular revolution.

Speakers Soumaila Ouedraogo and Essebe Ouarme delved into the sources of conflict, which often revolve around land ownership, farmer-herder disagreements, the installation of traditional chiefs, and politics. They emphasized the importance of well-informed opinion leaders in addressing these issues and the necessity of establishing conflict resolution monitoring committees.

Adama Siguire, vice-president of the AES commission and native of the area, called on residents to prioritize dialogue and support security forces and the VDP (Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland) in the pursuit of peace.
