Ziga County High School’s Cultural Event Highlights Education Amid Gold Mining Challenges

Sandbondtenga: Ziga County High School recently celebrated its "forty-eight hours of culture" on April 29 and 30, 2026, under the theme "School, a lasting treasure in the face of the mirages of gold panning." The event saw active participation from students, teachers, and local residents, who engaged in a range of cultural and sporting activities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event commenced with the raising of the national colors, followed by a cultural parade featuring ballets and skits. The school organized aerobics sessions, a women's cycling race, a clean-up day, and a large fair, which attracted many residents from Ziga and created a welcoming atmosphere.

A significant part of the event was a conference-debate led by Clement Savadogo, the Secretary General of the Ziga town hall, focusing on the educational challenges posed by gold mining activities.

The inter-class football final was a highlight, with the 3rd class triumphing over the 5th class with a score of 2-0. An opening gala match saw students defeating teachers, also with a 2-0 scoreline. Prizes were awarded to outstanding participants and teams, recognizing their achievements.

El Hadj Sadou Ouedraogo, the event's sponsor, encouraged students to remain united, diligent, and persistent. Charles Gervais Onadja, the high school's principal, and the student general delegate commended the event's success in fostering cohesion and teamwork within the school community.
