Ouagadougou: The province of Ziro is taking significant steps to address the challenges associated with the new school year, particularly the widespread implementation of bilingual education. This initiative is in line with the authorities' guidelines to promote national languages in schools, as stated by the Provincial Director of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education (DPEPPNF), Sidbewendin Compaor, during the administrative start of the school year.

According to Burkina Information Agency, 166 first-grade classes in Ziro are participating in the bilingual education program, focusing on the national languages Nuni and Moor. To facilitate this transition, pedagogical supervisors received training during the holidays and will conduct teacher training at the beginning of the academic year. This reform is a major focus for the 2026-2027 school year and is integral to the larger agenda of the Ministry of National Education's 2030 projects.

The administrative period, which runs until September 30, 2026, involves various preparatory activities for the academic year commencing on October 1. These activities include recruiting new students, holding back-to-school meetings, and distributing teaching materials to schools.

Sidbewendin Compaor, the Provincial Director of Primary, Secondary and Vocational Education (DPEPPNF), noted that supervisors from the Basic Education Districts (CEB) managed the administrative start of the school year. He emphasized that the success of the 2026-2027 school year hinges on the thorough preparation during this period.

Compaor also mentioned that most staff members are present, with only a few absences due to illness. Moreover, he pointed out the need for additional personnel in the early childhood sector to support the opening of new preschool centers and to enhance staffing at existing centers.
