Zondoma: More than 1,000 medicinal plants will be mobilized for reforestation in Gourcy as part of the 7th edition of National Tree Day. The provincial organizing committee for the event convened at the Gourcy High Commission to finalize preparations.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the regional launch of the National Tree Day will be held on July 26 in Zondoma Province, with the Governor of the Northern Region, Thomas Yampa, presiding over the event. The organizing committee, led by the province's secretary general, Anatole Pengdwend© Kabor©, assessed the preparations and explored ways to ensure the success of the regional activity.
Provincial Director of the Environment of Zondoma, Abdoul Kader Zongo, reported that significant progress has been made. Activities such as site identification and development, plant mobilization, and engaging partners to support the event have been completed. The organizing committee emphasized the importance of collaboration among Zondoma's key stakeholders to meet the organizational goals. The plan includes planting 1,000 plants of at least 15 species on a 2-hectare site in Bouli, near Gourcy.
The theme for this edition is "Medicinal plants, a source of health and climate resilience for communities," and the event will be held under the patronage of His Majesty Naaba Baongo, Chief of Gourcy. The survival rate of plants from the previous edition exceeded 90%, highlighting the effectiveness of past efforts.
