Zoundweogo: The High Commissioner of Zoundweogo province, Julien Ou©draogo, led a delegation on a cultural exploration to Gogo. The group included provincial directors, service heads, the town hall's secretary general, and local leaders, all gathering to explore the tourist and cultural sites of the commune.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this event was organized as part of Burkina Faso's Heritage Month and featured several key activities. The delegation's first stop was the royal court of Gogo, where they were welcomed by the Nakom Naaba, the representative of the Nabikienga, along with his notables. The elders of the community provided a historical overview of the origins, traditions, and cultural values of the community.
The delegation, guided by traditional chiefs, visited two significant heritage sites in the municipality. The first, Koura Hill, is known as a sacred place for traditional sacrifices by the Bissas. The head of the Gnikoudougou district noted that the exact timing of these rites remains a mystery, with evidence of rituals such as blood and feathers often discovered in the morning.
The visit proceeded to Mok Piiga, a site holding both touristic and ritual significance. The chief of Gnikoudougou explained that this location is used for sacrifices to pray for favorable conditions like a good rainy season, peace, and prosperity. Individuals also perform sacrifices here seeking health, wealth, or the birth of a child.
The day concluded with participants gathering around a campsite under mango trees, fostering dialogue among administrative and traditional authorities, guests, and local populations. This interaction aimed to strengthen social cohesion and community spirit.
High Commissioner Ou©draogo expressed his appreciation to the organizing committee and the local authorities for their hospitality. "We learned a lot. It was a moment of sharing and discovery," he remarked. The visit was part of the 4th edition of the Burkinabe Cultural Heritage Month, themed: "Heritage and cultural diversity: commitment, role and responsibility of actors".
