Hanoi: The Regional Directorate of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources (DRAERAH) of Nazinon held a meeting with the authorities of the commune of Nobr to request their assistance in mobilizing the community around the issue of water safety.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this meeting aimed to raise awareness among local authorities about hygiene and sanitation practices to preserve water quality and protect public health. The delegation was led by Raboloum Oudraogo Lalacha, head of the Regional Water Resources and Hydraulics Service, who explained the issues related to the water safety management plan initiated by the regional directorate.
Comrade Pierre Kafando, president of the special delegation of Nobr, supported the initiative and urged participants to promote good hygiene and sanitation practices in their communities. Comrade Oudraogo emphasized the urgency of the initiative, stating, “We are in Nobr because the health of our people is a priority. We are asking for your support to mobilize massively so that the message reaches every home.”
The drinking water supply well for Nobr was closed in March 2026 due to arsenic contamination, reportedly 30 times above the standard level. Open defecation and chemical use in gold mining have been identified as potential causes of this contamination. This campaign seeks to address these issues and improve the management of water safety.
Local authorities pledged their support for the initiative. The Dapoya Naaba, representing the canton chief, described the campaign as “life-saving” and committed to fostering lasting behavioral changes to enhance living conditions.
