Diapaga: The 27th Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR 27) of Diapaga has extended a hand of support by donating food and financial assistance to 33 families of Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) who lost their lives in the line of duty on Saturday, March 14, 2026. The handover ceremony was held at the High Commission in Diapaga.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the donation comprised 33 bags of 25 kg rice and an envelope containing 10,000 FCFA for each family. The aim of this contribution is to alleviate the hardships faced by widows and to address the immediate food needs of the beneficiaries.
The event was graced by the presence of High Commissioner Rene Karambiri, Captain Fay§al Zoure, commander of BIR 27, along with presidents of the special delegations of the province, customary and religious authorities, and family members of the fallen fighters.
Captain Christophe Niki¨ma, deputy commander of BIR 27, explained the motivation behind the initiative, emphasizing the army's dedication to fostering unity, solidarity, and resilience. He stated, "It is through unity, fraternity, and solidarity that the security forces, the volunteers, and the civilian population will be able to overcome the challenges facing Burkina Faso together," underscoring that the defense of the nation is a collective responsibility.
Arnaud Gnoula, representing the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation for the solidarity shown and called upon the community to continue praying for the VDP and to support those still engaged in the fight. He remarked that the donation coincides with the periods of Christian Lent and Muslim fasting, times characterized by sharing and reflection, when the need for essential supplies is particularly acute.
High Commissioner Rene Karambiri conveyed his gratitude towards BIR 27, acknowledging that this gesture offers moral support to the volunteers on the ground and reassures families that their sacrifices are remembered. He encouraged those who can to assist the VDP and their families, while praising the humanitarian and social mission of the BIR 27's leadership.
The ceremony concluded with a series of prayers and blessings dedicated to the fighters and their families.
