Ouagadougou: Staff from the Ministry in charge of Basic Education and the Ministry in charge of Secondary Education and Vocational Training have contributed 2.5 million CFA francs to the "My Brick for Sankara" project. This citizen initiative aims to mobilize resources for the completion of the memorial dedicated to Thomas Sankara, the iconic figure of the Burkinabe Revolution.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Henri Prosper Pare, the Secretary General at the Ministry of Secondary Education, highlighted the relevance of the initiative, noting that both ministries seized the opportunity to make a symbolic contribution. This gesture reflects their patriotism and solidarity towards building the homeland. Mr. Pare emphasized that this is the first contribution from these ministries and expressed hope for further support from other sectors.
Mr. Pare also called on the educational community within both ministries to participate in this patriotic effort, aiming to foster civic spirit among students and staff. During a ceremony honoring the Thomas Sankara Memorial, the ministries had pledged to support the "My Brick for Sankara" project, which focuses on raising funds to complete the memorial dedicated to the revolutionary leader.
Etienne Lompo, the coordinator of the memorial's construction project, acknowledged the substantial contribution from the ministries. He noted the commitment of their staff to the memorial's realization. Mr. Lompo also expressed gratitude for the schoolchildren and students who frequently visit the Thomas Sankara memorial. He mentioned that these visits not only enhance the memorial's visibility but also contribute to its operation through their modest participation.
Mr. Lompo reiterated that the "My Brick for Sankara" initiative does not require a specific amount for contributions, but significant investments are still necessary. He urged all Burkinab¨ to demonstrate similar patriotic and civic engagement by contributing to the project. Contributions can be made at the memorial site, via the ARZEKA platform, or through mobile phone money transfers.
