3rd Edition of Naaba Koanga Canton Chief Cup Kicks Off with Exciting Match

Gaongo: The 3rd edition of the Naaba Koanga Canton Chief Cup has been launched in Gaongo. The event, which took place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, features six teams from the communes of Gaongo, Toece, and Doulougou. The opening match saw the Wardogo team from Gaongo face off against the Goanghin team from Doulougou, concluding with a thrilling 4-2 victory for Goanghin after a penalty shootout.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the launch was presided over by Souleymane Diallo, President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Gaongo municipality. The event was attended by several traditional chiefs and heads of public services. The competition, named after the canton chief of Gaongo, aims to strengthen community ties and promote social cohesion.

The PDS, in his remarks, praised the initiative and assured his support for the event. He also commended the organizing committee for their consistent efforts over the years. Chief Naaba Koanga expressed his pleasure over the participation of the municipalities and the engagement of the local population and traditional leaders.

Issaka Compaore, president of the organizing committee, revealed that the competition's qualifying rounds will be single-leg matches. Additional activities, such as a cycling race, a blood drive, a mega fitness event, and an inter-school word game competition, are also scheduled. The competition will culminate with the final match on May 16, 2026.

As a reminder, the Douaba team emerged victorious in the previous edition.
