Burkina: The Burkinabè television broadcasting company threatens to suspend the programs of certain televisions

Ouagadougou, The Burkinabè Television Broadcasting Company (SBT) on Tuesday threatened to stop broadcasting on November 23, programs from certain television service editors which are not up to date with their royalties .

According to the director of the Burkinabè Television Broadcasting Company (SBT), Fidèle Aymar Tamini, some television service editors are unable to pay their royalties.

In his opinion, his structure will stop broadcasting the programs of the media concerned on November 23.

The head of the SBT spoke Tuesday in Ouagadougou, facing the press on the non-payment of royalties from certain television service publishers.

For him, the expected revenues for the year 2021 are estimated at one billion 104 million 874 thousand 851 CFA Francs for all publishers.

True Aymar Tamimi reported that the total charged to 10 th months of the year amounted to 826 million 823 thousand 444 Francs CFA.

According to him, his institution was only able to recover 150 million 062 thousand 500 CFA Francs or 18%.

“Four service editors are up to date with the payment of the broadcasting license. Three have paid partially and are making efforts to clear their accounts according to an agreed deadline, ”he said.

Mr. Tamini noted that nine service editors remain debtors for the year 2020-2021 with a total cumulative amount of 736 million 792 thousand 152 CFA Francs.

Seizing the opportunity, the technical director of SBT, Filippe Kahoun, stressed that the non-payment of fees will “seriously” handicap the continuity of the structure’s services.

Same story for the commercial director of the SBT, Muhamed Koutiébou who invites the debtor bodies to honor their royalties, in order to allow the Company to continue its mission.

“Service editors have benefited from two years free of charge for our services to promote themselves,” he said.

As a reminder, the SBT was created in July 2013 as part of the establishment of a digital terrestrial television which brings together all the television service editors of Burkina Faso.
