Nathalie Yamb Advocates for Eliminating Sources of Division to Achieve African Unity

Ouagadougou: Pan-Africanist activist Nathalie Yamb emphasized the necessity of eliminating sources of division to achieve African unity during a public conference on Sunday. "I think that to achieve African unity, we must first work to eliminate the sources of division, because when we are disunited, we are weak, but when we are united, we are strong," Yamb stated.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Yamb underscored the importance of Africans freeing themselves from all sources of disunity, which she believes benefit imperialists. The conference, held in Ouagadougou, focused on the ideals of Captain Thomas Sankara and was themed "The Africa that we dream of according to Thomas Sankara."

Addressing the topic "African Unity: How and When?", Yamb described division as a historical weapon of imperialism. She highlighted wars, sponsored terrorism, corruption, and manipulation of African youth as primary sources of division.

Yamb further argued that achieving true African unity requires establishing good governance, fostering balanced international interactions through win-win partnerships, ensuring the sovereignty of peoples, and preventing betrayal within African states.

Abdouramane Oumarou, President of the Pan-African Emergency in Niger and co-panelist with Yamb, stressed the importance of unity for African progress. He suggested that the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) could be seen as the foundation for a future United States of Africa.

Oumarou noted that Europeans were inspired by former Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah's ideas to form the European Union. He called for Africans to reclaim the ideals of their independence leaders to achieve true unity and sovereignty.

He expressed hope that AES leaders would work towards a federation of African states to facilitate genuine development for their populations.
