Kossi: An economic operator from Nouna, Assimi Bel¨me, provided a community meal for the residents of the Nouna solidarity courtyard, an initiative spearheaded by the provincial directorate responsible for National Solidarity.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event took place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, and aimed at improving the living conditions of the courtyard's residents. The provincial director in charge of Humanitarian Action, Alassane Kagone, noted that this initiative aligns with the government's policy on promoting solidarity, social cohesion, and supporting vulnerable people.
"We are not just gathered around a meal, we are gathered around strong human values, those which remind us that whatever our means, or our backgrounds, we all belong to the same community," Kagone expressed. He emphasized the importance of respect and dignity for the residents, highlighting the day as a symbol of sharing and fraternity.
Assimi Bel¨me, the sponsor of the event, reiterated his commitment to supporting efforts to enhance the residents' living conditions. Meanwhile, the president of the special delegation of the commune of Nouna, Souleymane Tiono, pledged to address some of the residents' grievances and urged other economic operators to consider the needs of these individuals.
Firmin Bassole, the Secretary General of Kossi province, called on the daughters and sons of the province to show compassion towards the residents of the solidarity courtyard. The courtyard, which was established in 1984 under President Thomas Sankara to combat begging and assist vulnerable people, currently accommodates 98 residents, including 35 permanent and 63 non-permanent residents. Despite its noble mission, the facility faces challenges such as aging infrastructure and lack of certain amenities.
