Ouahigouya: The Governor of the Yaadga Region, Thomas Yampa, chaired a significant ceremony where 15 villages from Ouahigouya, along with the communes of Tangaye and Zogor©, signed the 'Yatenga Commitments'. This initiative aims to bolster peace and social cohesion among communities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the 'Yatenga Commitments' represent a pivotal step towards fostering harmonious coexistence. The ceremony took place on July 22, 2025, in Ouahigouya, highlighting a collaborative effort involving administrative, customary, religious authorities, defense and security forces, and community representatives.

Governor Yampa commended the inclusive approach and acknowledged the contributors, including the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue and High Commissioner Tass©r© Nacoulma. Moussa Tall, head of the CDH office in Burkina Faso, noted that the initial commitments were signed on July 19, 2024. A monitoring committee was then established to oversee their implementation.

The commitment's results over the past year have been promising, with activities like courtesy visits, monthly meetings, collective prayers, and broader gatherings promoting the initiative among the populace. This has improved the social climate in Ouahigouya, encouraging the participation of additional villages and communes.

Governor Yampa observed improvements in the social environment, which now better supports daily activities. He expressed hope that these commitments would serve as a model for the entire Yadga region, emphasizing the need for communities to overcome cohabitation challenges.

He highlighted the significance of dispute management mechanisms in reducing tensions and stressed that while misunderstandings may still arise, the monitoring committee would be the appropriate body to address any issues. The commitments symbolize a fresh start, supported by traditional, religious, and administrative authorities and the FDS.

The monitoring committee remains dedicated to facilitating the implementation of the Yatenga commitments and supporting new members in this endeavor.
