Kossi: The High Commissioner of the province of Kossi, Noufo Dembel©, presided over the planting of more than 575 medicinal plants in the provincial grove located in Koussiri, sector 7 of Nouna. The initiative, held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, was attended by associations, youth movements, and high school graduates participating in patriotic immersion programs.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial grove in Koussiri hosted the planting of these 575 plants, which cover an area of two hectares and include a variety of medicinal species. The activity is a part of the broader vision set forth by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, who announced a national initiative on December 31, 2024, to create groves of medicinal plants and traditional therapeutic herbs at the provincial level.
The provincial director of Water and Forests of Kossi, Hamidou Dayamba, explained that this effort is crucial as the country faces environmental challenges such as deforestation, desertification, and reliance on imported medicines. The initiative also seeks to enhance the sustainable management of forest resources, promote traditional medicine, and improve public health by engaging local communities.
Participants in the event, following a technical demonstration by Lieutenant of Water and Forests, Assimou To©, engaged in a question and answer session before proceeding with the planting of the trees. To ensure the grove's sustainability, the provincial Water and Forestry Department plans to conduct awareness sessions on the significance of medicinal plants.
High Commissioner Noufo Dembel© expressed his pride in the substantial community mobilization for the activity, highlighting its importance for both environmental and public health goals.
