Burkina Faso Football Federation President Labels CHAN 2024 Performance as “Totally Negative”

Zanzibar: The president of the Burkinabe Football Federation (FBF), Oumarou Sawadogo, expressed his disappointment with the performance of the Etalons A' in the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN). The team suffered its third defeat against Madagascar in four matches, prompting Sawadogo to describe the participation record as "totally negative."

According to Burkina Information Agency, Sawadogo conveyed his dissatisfaction during a conversation with journalists, stating that the goals set by the team were not achieved. This was the fourth participation by Burkina Faso in CHAN, and Sawadogo noted that the results have been consistently disappointing. He emphasized the need for the team to learn from the experience and work towards improvement.

Sawadogo highlighted the challenges faced by the team, including the departure of six players who were initially part of the preparation. Despite efforts to accommodate these changes, the team struggled to deliver expected results. Sawadogo acknowledged the need to continue working and emphasized the importance of confronting the issues head-on.

When questioned about potential changes to the team's leadership, Sawadogo pointed out contractual obligations that prevent immediate staff changes. He mentioned plans to evaluate the situation and consider expanding the National Technical Directorate as a possible solution.

Sawadogo also critiqued the team's inconsistent playing style, reflecting on the differences observed in their matches against Mauritania and Madagascar. He expressed disappointment in the team's inability to consistently execute a cohesive game plan aligned with the standards of the national league.

Having been in his role for only a year, Sawadogo acknowledged the difficulties in implementing changes within the federation. Financial constraints and contractual obligations have posed challenges, but he remains committed to addressing these issues to enhance the performance and reputation of Burkina Faso's football teams.

The CHAN KE-TZ-UG 2024, initially scheduled for 2024, has been postponed to 2025, and will now take place from August 2 to 30.
