Fada n'gourma: The Center for Islamic Study, Research and Training (CERFI), through its 'DJAMA BEOG NERE' project, launched a training session for religious leaders, including imams and preachers, focused on social cohesion and living together according to Islamic teachings. This training, held from September 23 to 25, 2025, was inaugurated by the High Commissioner of Gourma Province, Silas Nacanabo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the training aimed to equip imams and preachers with the necessary skills to foster unity and resilience amidst the ongoing insecurity affecting Burkina Faso. Silas Nacanabo, representing the Governor of the Goulmou region, endorsed the initiative, emphasizing its role in promoting peace through education and awareness. He highlighted the challenges faced since 2015, which have strained social cohesion and mutual respect across different segments of the country.
Silas Nacanabo urged religious leaders to actively participate in addressing the crisis by promoting peaceful coexistence. Kadre Sawadogo, the project coordinator, acknowledged the contributions of local authorities and the Defense and Security Forces towards restoring peace. He explained that the 'DJAMA BEOG NERE' initiative, meaning 'a better future for all', seeks to enhance community resilience against security and humanitarian challenges.
The project, supported by the Union of Religious and Customary People of Burkina for the Promotion of Health and Development (URCB/SD), aims to instill values of peace, social cohesion, and respect for human rights as per Islamic principles. It spans 32 months across 15 municipalities in 12 regions, utilizing an inclusive and participatory approach.
Fati Sanane, the general secretary of the CERFI women's cell in Fada, praised the initiative for its potential to strengthen community ties. She stated that participants will act as conduits for these teachings within their communities. Ahadi Idani, the second vice-president of the special delegation of Fada N'Gourma, recognized the workshop's timely contribution to addressing the current insecurity and humanitarian challenges.
The training session in Fada N'Gourma was designed to provide religious leaders with practical strategies to foster peace, counter hate speech, and reduce stigma, contributing to a peaceful and resilient Burkina Faso.
