Guiriko: The first edition of the Houet Marathon of Sidwaya took place on Saturday morning in the city of Sya, focusing on peace and social cohesion, under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Communication.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, held under the theme "Sport, a factor of peace and social cohesion," attracted more than 1,000 athletes, both professional and amateur. It aimed to promote fraternity, peace, and social cohesion among the people of Burkina Faso. Ass¨tou Badoh/Guir©, the general manager of Sidwaya Publishing, stated that the marathon aimed to generate enthusiasm and provide the residents of Bobo-Dioulasso with a morning of joy and communal experience, transcending differences.
The marathon, supported by the public press establishment founded in 1984 by Captain Thomas Sankara, also sought to foster a closer relationship between the national press and its readers in a friendly and inclusive environment. Participants competed in 10km and 21km races, showcasing determination and resilience, without any dropouts.
Awards were given to the top thirty athletes in each race, acknowledging the best runners in both the 21km and 10km distances. The Director General of Sidwaya Publishing commended the remarkable participation of Sya's residents and the unwavering support from regional authorities, the Ministry of Communication, and the Ministry of Sports.
"The Houet Marathon of Sidwaya was born, it ran, it sweated and it succeeded," remarked the head of the public press group, expressing anticipation for an even more engaging and unifying second edition.
