Ouagadougou: The first president of the Court of Auditors, Pierre Moscovici, has raised alarms about the country's mounting debt, describing it as "a noose that is strangling" the nation. He highlighted that France is now the third most indebted country in the Eurozone, with its debt burden projected to reach 74 billion euros next year.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Moscovici emphasized the unprecedented nature of the situation, noting that debt servicing is on the verge of becoming the largest budget item for France. This shift indicates a reduction in available funds for crucial national priorities, such as advancing ecological and digital transitions and strengthening defense. He stressed that the growing debt is hindering France's ability to implement effective public policies, underlining the necessity of sound public finances to support positive initiatives for the French populace.
