Leraba: The High Commissioner of Leraba, Yacouba Sawadogo, inaugurated the 14th edition of the National Family Planning Week in Sindou, focusing on reducing maternal and infant mortality. This event, combined with the promotion of breastfeeding, is being held in the rural commune of Niankorodougou, located 30 km south of Sindou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Wenkoni Abdoul Aziz Ouedraogo, the regional health director of Tannounyan, encouraged the province's population to utilize family planning and integrated services to lower rates of maternal, neonatal, and infant mortality. The initiative, running from November 10 to 16, 2025, also includes activities related to breastfeeding and screening for women's cancers, STIs, HIV, and viral hepatitis.
Health workers used the launch to demonstrate contraceptive methods, aiming to educate both women and men on the advantages of family planning. Additionally, a mobile clinic was present to offer free screenings for women, enhancing community health services.
The week-long event includes various activities such as social mobilization, advocacy, and the provision of free reproductive health care. Dr. Ouedraogo emphasized the goal of the event is to generate demand for family planning services, ultimately contributing to the reduction of maternal, neonatal, and infant mortality rates. The High Commissioner and DRS of Tannounyan expressed satisfaction with the community's response and engagement with the mobile clinic services.
