Gourma: A joint operation by the National Road Safety Office (ONASER), the municipal police, and the national police, conducted this Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in Fada N'Gourma, resulted in the arrest of 75 road users for not wearing helmets. The offenders were sentenced to community service at the Faso Mebo presidential initiative site.

According to Burkina Information Agency, statistics from the operation, which took place after several awareness sessions on wearing helmets, indicated that 60 motorcycles and 4 tricycles were seized within 30 minutes.

The apprehended users were immediately directed to community service, in addition to paying the prescribed fines. Despite the sanctions, some offenders say they appreciate the initiative.

The painter, Relwende Aime, expressed his contentment in working on the Faso Mebo site, stating, "It's true that it's following an offense, but I'm still happy because I will thus contribute to the building of my country."

Abdou Alidou, arrested for the same reasons, explained that he was riding without a helmet when he was stopped. He advised other road users to put on their helmets before taking to the road, acknowledging the dangers of not doing so.

According to Yacouba Nakare, the director of the municipal police in Fada N'Gourma, the control operations follow a long awareness-raising phase. He specified that the imposed community service currently lasts for one day but could extend to a week for repeat offenses.

The security forces intend to continue these operations to reduce accidents related to the failure to wear a helmet in the city of Yendabli.
