Banwa: The High Commissioner of the Banwa province, Sanfienale Joseph Sirima, chaired the launch of the farm-gate collection initiative by the National Food Security Stock Management Company (SONAGESS) in Solenzo.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial agricultural directorate announced that the state will purchase 9,000 tons of grain from producers this year, including maize, millet, rice, and cowpeas. On the first day of the initiative, 65 tons of grain were successfully collected, with producers receiving immediate payment. The process involves each producer bringing their produce to be weighed on a scale, after which payment is made.

The pricing structure set by SONAGESS offers 200 CFA francs per kilogram for millet, 360 CFA francs for cowpeas, 145 CFA francs for maize, and 170 CFA francs for sorghum and the TS2 and Orylux rice varieties. Over the course of three months, designated agents will work to collect the targeted 9,000 tons of cereals on behalf of SONAGESS.

The High Commissioner has encouraged producers to fully engage in ensuring the success of the farm-gate collection phase and to meet the requested tonnage target.
