Bougouriba: A semi-trailer truck loaded with reinforcing steel, coming from Ghana, ran off the road during the night of Friday, January 30 to Saturday, January 31, 2026, at around 1 a.m., in Milkpo, a locality located about 18 kilometers from Diebougou, on the Diebougou-Bobo-Dioulasso road.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the truck was traveling towards Bobo-Dioulasso when it approached a slope at the entrance to the village of Milkpo. It was at a speed bump that the driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle after a violent impact, which caused an imbalance in the transported load.
Further details from the same source indicate that the driver attempted to control the truck for nearly 100 meters. However, despite his efforts, the front right wheel eventually left the road, causing the trailer to tip over before the truck, along with its entire load of reinforcing steel, overturned completely.
Fortunately, the accident resulted in no loss of life. The vehicle's occupants escaped unharmed, but the incident caused significant material damage, particularly to the vehicle and the goods being transported. Traffic was temporarily disrupted on this busy stretch of road linking Diebougou to Bobo-Dioulasso. Measures were taken to remove the truck and its cargo from the roadway, allowing traffic to gradually resume.
This accident raises the issue of road safety, particularly when approaching residential areas and speed bumps. It also highlights the risks associated with overloading and inappropriate speed, especially on inclines. In such circumstances, the relevant authorities call on road users, particularly truck drivers, to strictly adhere to the highway code, to be vigilant and to moderate their speed, in order to prevent accidents and ensure everyone's safety.
Once again, luck has smiled on us where caution remains more essential than ever on the region's roads.
