Gourma: The Kaya Youth Development Association (AJDK) organized a voluntary blood donation day on Saturday in Kaya to benefit the Kaya Blood Products Distribution Center (DPD-PS). More than sixty units of blood were collected for this purpose.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation is part of the association's activities to promote peace and social cohesion. It mobilized regular and occasional donors from different socio-professional backgrounds in the city of Kaya to benefit the wounded and sick.
The president of AJDK, Luc Theodore Sedogo, stated that the main objective is to contribute to strengthening the stock of said depot and to consolidate, over the years, a network of regular donors.
The head of the blood collection service, Dr. Karim Soulgane, commended AJDK's consistent efforts to ensure the availability of blood products. He called on other organizations and the general public to show greater solidarity in order to meet the needs, particularly for type O- blood, which remains scarce during donation drives.
The chief medical officer of the Kaya health district, Dr. Lamine Ouedraogo, urged the population to respond massively to the regular appeals for donations. He believes this act of solidarity can save lives, particularly those of the sick and the forces engaged in security operations in the territory.
Beyond the blood drive, the day was punctuated by a symbolic planting of trees within the grounds of the DPD-PS, an awareness session on the importance of voluntary and regular blood donation, as well as a community meal between the authorities present and blood donors.
