Burkina faso: The Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kenji Akamura, currently visiting Burkina Faso, toured the Thomas Sankara Memorial on Wednesday, a major memorial site dedicated to the former Burkinabe president and his twelve companions. He was accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Aboubakar Nakanabo, as well as several administrative officials.
According to Burkina Information Agency, during his official visit to Burkina Faso, IMF Deputy Managing Director Kenji Akamura took the opportunity to visit the Thomas Sankara Memorial. The delegation toured several emblematic sites within the memorial, which recount a major chapter in the country's political history.
The visit began with a stop at the statue of Thomas Sankara and his twelve companions. It continued at the offices of the Conseil de l'Entente, the historic site of the meeting of October 15, 1987, which led to the assassination of President Sankara and his close associates.
The tour concluded at the mausoleum, where the remains of the deceased rest. This moment of reflection served as a reminder of the importance of remembering and passing on this memory to future generations.
Following the visit, Kenji Akamura expressed his admiration and satisfaction with what he had seen. He particularly praised the work done to reconstruct and promote the memory of Thomas Sankara through his photographs, writings, and artwork displayed at the memorial.
