Banwa: Several hundred pilgrims made the journey on Sunday to the Marian shrine of Koakoa located 12 km from Solenzo to pray for peace, social cohesion and living together in the Banwa province and throughout Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the last pilgrimage to this sanctuary took place in 2022, and it remained closed for security reasons. The reconquest of territorial integrity by the FDS and VDP in Solenzo facilitated the resumption of the pilgrimage to this site, which had been a place of reflection and prayer for pilgrims every year.

Since Saturday, February 7, 2026, pilgrims from various backgrounds have been spending the night in Koakoa in order to be the first at the sanctuary the following Sunday morning for prayer. Very early in the morning, men, women and children, using motorcyclists, vehicles, tricycles and even carts, went to the place of prayer in Koakoa.

From 9am the space was packed with people, and it was at 10am that mass began in front of thousands of pilgrims. In his homily, Father Ananis Dakyo asked the pilgrims to be like the salt and light of the world, to be role models. This, he argued, would help to drive corruption and hatred out of Burkina Faso.
