Koulpelogo: The Ouargaye Elders' Committee, with the support of OCADES Caritas Burkina, organized a community day on Saturday, February 14, 2026, under the banner of peace and living together. The event brought together the various communities residing in Ouargaye, including the Yaana, Fulani, Bissa, Gourmantche, Zaosse, Mossi, and many others, who came to demonstrate their commitment to social cohesion.
According to Burkina Information Agency, several activities punctuated this fraternal day, including a women's cycling race, awareness skits, key messages delivered by representatives of different communities, as well as the tasting of local dishes. The ceremony took place in the presence of local authorities. The prefect and president of the Ouargaye special delegation, Mahamadou Soulama, praised and commended this initiative by the Committee of Elders. He expressed his gratitude to the partners and organizers for the strong turnout, emphasizing that such actions contribute to strengthening unity and solidarity among the sons and daughters of the community.
For the chairman of the Committee of Elders, Prosper Goumbri, known as Kadhafi, this day is part of their organization's action plan, which aims to promote peace, social cohesion, and dialogue between communities. He also thanked the partner OCADES Caritas Burkina for its support and assistance in organizing this community day.
The day was also used by the National Police to conduct an information and awareness campaign. Discussions focused in particular on the mandatory wearing of helmets for users of two- and three-wheeled vehicles and on the implementation of the new biometric AES cards. According to the provincial director of the National Police in Koulpelogo, Chief Superintendent Eric Wendpouyre Sawadogo, it is essential to take advantage of these large gatherings to inform and raise awareness among the population on current issues, in order to promote civic and responsible behavior.
Through this initiative, the communities of Ouargaye reaffirm their common will to preserve peace and consolidate living together in a national context marked by security and social challenges.
