Kaya: Faso Yaar launched its sales operation for essential consumer goods in the Kouls© region this Friday in Kaya. This initiative is part of its mission to support the local population and aims to strengthen household purchasing power and promote domestic production.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the opening ceremony of the Faso Yaar shop, set up in the premises of the Kaya town hall, was presided over by the secretary general of the Kouls© region, Bernadette Adenyo/Serm©. She stressed that this initiative comes in a context marked by the Christian Lent and the Muslim fast, a period during which the needs of the population are increased. "We are in a pivotal period with fasting among Muslims and Lent among Christians. This initiative will facilitate the practice of faith for both groups," said Ms. Adenyo/Serm©. She invited the public to frequent this sales point in a spirit of order and solidarity, while warning against any attempt to resell these products at regulated prices.
According to the regional director in charge of Trade for Kouls©, Sidiki Kon©, the operation will take place from February 20 to March 25, 2026. He specified that customers must register on a platform, with the possibility of payment in cash or by electronic transfer. Mr. Kon© added that quotas have been set to allow as many people as possible to benefit from the products. The shops currently offer sugar, cooking oil, and juices, while soap is expected in the coming days. The regional director reassured customers regarding stock availability and the regularity of deliveries.
Consumers have welcomed the initiative. "I was eagerly awaiting this sale for the fasting period. I was able to buy sugar and oil and I am satisfied," said Mikaila Sawadogo, a customer who praised the authorities' initiative. The president of the Burkina Faso provincial branch of the Consumers' League, Fran§ois Baloum, also expressed his satisfaction. He believes this operation is timely and hopes it will be sustained through consistent supplies to avoid shortages.
The sale of these essential consumer goods takes place daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., upon presentation of the Burkinab¨ national identity card (CNIB) and within the limits of the quantities authorized per customer. After Kaya, the Faso Yaar initiative will be extended to Kongoussi, in the Bam province.
