Ouahigouya: The Dutch ambassador is on site to encourage humanitarian workers

Yaadga Governor Thomas Yampa received in audience on Thursday, February 19, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, His Excellency Pieter Smidt van Gelder and his delegation, who came to the region for a field mission to encourage humanitarian actors, AIB observed.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Dutch ambassador and his delegation were received by Thomas Yampa, the head of the Yaadga region. The purpose of their visit to the city of Naaba Kango was explained by the diplomat, who indicated that the mission aimed to allow his delegation to gain firsthand experience of the work being carried out by humanitarian actors, particularly the World Food Programme (WFP), in Burkina Faso, in the Yaadga region.

The diplomat highlighted that the mission focuses on issues related to food security, with a particular emphasis on supporting local actors in the nutritional value chain, school canteens, early recovery, and humanitarian logistics. Thomas Yampa expressed his delight at the diplomat's first visit to his region and thanked him on behalf of the highest authorities for the various activities carried out by humanitarian workers in the Yaadga region.

The program for this stay in Ouahigouya included a visit to sites, including a school, a site producing nutritional inputs, an early recovery site, and an exchange session with humanitarian actors from the largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger in the world.

It should be recalled that the Netherlands is a key partner of the World Food Programme (WFP) and one of its main donors. Their commitment is reflected in multifaceted support for humanitarian action and food security, notably through a multi-year financing agreement supplemented by additional contributions targeting emergency operations and the UNHAS centralized mechanism.
