Capacity Building Initiative for School Councils in Gogo Commune

Zoundweogo/education: The Provincial Director of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training of Zoundweogo, Georgette Nikiema, led a meeting at the Gogo town hall reception hall to confer with members of the school councils in the commune.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting commenced with Principal Djakaridja Ouattara of Gogo Departmental High School extending a warm welcome to the Provincial Director, her delegation, and all attendees. Georgette Nikiema expressed gratitude for the participants' presence and dedication, urging open dialogue to ensure that each school council is equipped with the tools necessary for their activities, prioritizing student benefits.

Romaric Dolkoum, head of the Studies, Planning and Educational Mapping Department, delivered a comprehensive report on the school council's operations. He highlighted that the decree outlining the council's responsibilities, structure, and operation was enacted by the Council of Ministers on May 26, 2025.

The school council's primary duties include mobilizing parents, promoting local canteen initiatives, supporting agro-sylvo-pastoral activities, and identifying local knowledge holders to enhance learning. Additionally, the council is tasked with organizing immersions for exam winners in Defense and Security Forces training centers, strengthening school discipline, and combating narcotics and violence in schools.

Dolkoum emphasized that the school council's operation hinges on community and partner resources. Participants of the meeting proposed various recommendations to enhance the school councils' functionality in the Gogo commune.
