Dedougou: Muslim worshippers in the city of Dedougou celebrated Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, on Friday, March 20, 2026. In a national context marked by security challenges, prayers were strongly focused on the return of peace and social cohesion.
According to Burkina Information Agency, early in the morning of Friday, March 20, 2026, Muslims in Dedougou mobilized to perform the great Eid prayer, ending thirty days of fasting, devotion, and supplication. In unison with other communities in the country, they implored God for a peaceful and stable Burkina Faso.
The grand prayer at the Grand Mosque of Dedougou was presided over by the Grand Imam Mamadou BS, surrounded by his colleagues. The prayer was attended by administrative and customary authorities, including the governor of the Bankui region, Babo Pierre Bassinga, and the Chief of the canton of Dedougou, who came to pray with the Muslim faithful and assure them of their closeness and solidarity.
Imam Ba invited the faithful to pray for peace in the region, in the country and throughout the world. In his address to the faithful, the imam invited them to show solidarity and to pray constantly for peace to return to Burkina Faso. They offered special prayers for the highest authorities in the country, the fighting forces, and all those working for peace in the country.
"May God continue to inspire the highest authorities so that they succeed in their will to bring peace and development to our dear country," added Grand Imam Mamadou BS. The governor praised the commitment and fervor of the Muslim community, which he congratulated for the efforts made during the month of Ramadan. Babo Pierre Bassinga stressed that the prayers were primarily dedicated to the return of peace and security, as well as to the support of the highest authorities and the defense and security forces engaged on the ground.
The regional authority also stressed the need to strengthen social cohesion, living together and national reconciliation, highlighting the values of love, forgiveness, and solidarity as essential foundations for overcoming the crisis the country is going through. For the devout Muslim, Cheick Oumar Kone, the celebration of Eid al-Fitr should be marked by sharing and solidarity, inviting the faithful to help the most destitute so that the whole community can celebrate in joy and fairness.
He also stressed that, in the context of a security crisis, Muslims pray daily for the return of peace, while imploring divine protection for the forces engaged in the defense of the country. The celebration of Eid al-Fitr in Dedougou was thus marked by religious fervor, but also by a unanimous call for peace, solidarity, and hope.
