Hounde: The Catholic faithful of the parish of Saint Ther¨se of the Child Jesus of Hounde celebrated Palm Sunday on March 29, 2026, with religious fervor. The faithful gathered early in the morning in front of the Hounde prefecture for the blessing of the palm branches and the start of the procession.
According to Burkina Information Agency, armed with branches and green leaves, children, young people, women, and men walked singing to the Church of Saint Ther¨se of the Child Jesus to commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. The mass was celebrated by Father Jean-Baptiste Davou and was marked by the reading of the Passion of Christ, which recounts the sufferings and death of Jesus.
In his homily, Father Jean-Baptiste Davou invited the faithful to follow the example of Christ, exhorting them to live in humility, love of neighbor, and forgiveness. He emphasized that "The source of humility is found in Christ." Furthermore, the faithful were encouraged to live Holy Week in prayer and conversion to prepare for the Easter celebration.
The celebration took place in an atmosphere of religious fervor, punctuated by songs and prayers. As a reminder, in the Catholic tradition, Palm Sunday marks the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem and opens Holy Week, which leads to the celebration of Easter.
