Women on the Front Lines to Build Lasting Peace in Kampti

Kampti: The delayed celebration on April 1 of International Women's Day in the commune of Kampti took on a decidedly committed dimension this year, highlighting the crucial role of women and girls in consolidating peace and promoting living together, in a national context marked by multiple challenges.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Kampti Women's House served as the setting, on April 1, 2026, for this commemoration placed under the national theme: "Building lasting peace in Burkina Faso: what contribution of women and girls to the promotion of living together?".

In an atmosphere marked by sobriety and responsibility, the various interventions converged on a call for increased involvement of women in the dynamics of social cohesion and local development. Speaking on behalf of the women, the president of the municipal coordination committee, Kambire Oho Mariette, praised their remarkable resilience in the face of current challenges. She further urged her colleagues to become more involved in income-generating initiatives, while strengthening their role in consolidating the social fabric.

Speaking next, the representative of the sponsor, Kambou Janvier, reiterated the true significance of March 8th, emphasizing that it should not be limited to festive celebrations but must serve as a framework for concrete action in support of women's economic empowerment and the promotion of their rights. For his part, the president of the Kampti special delegation, Massahiba Aime Soulama, highlighted the essential contribution of women to building lasting peace. He encouraged them to persevere in income-generating activities, which he described as pillars of social and economic stability.

The ceremony was also marked by a powerful act of solidarity. Thanks to the support of Plan Burkina, a multifunctional grinding machine was given to the women to support their local product processing activities and strengthen their empowerment. The beneficiaries, as well as the local authorities, welcomed this significant gesture, while expressing their gratitude to the partners for their constant support.

Beyond its symbolic nature, this delayed celebration of March 8 in Kampti is part of a dynamic of concrete actions aimed at strengthening the economic capacities of women, particularly through gardening and the processing of local products. This 2026 edition will thus have reaffirmed that the building of a lasting peace in Burkina Faso rests, inextricably, on the active involvement and empowerment of women and girls, the true architects of living together.
