Seno Secretary General Advocates for School Sports as a Tool for Citizenship and Cohesion

Dori: The Secretary General of the Seno province, Daouda Ganou, stated on Saturday that school and university sports should be seen as key instruments for fostering citizenship, social cohesion, and patriotism, rather than mere entertainment. He made this assertion during the launch of the 2025-2026 season competitions of the Union of School and University Sports of Burkina Faso (USSU-BF) held in Dori.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was attended by representatives of the province's constituted bodies, partners from the educational and sporting sectors, students, and athletes. This year's sports season is themed "Actors from the three levels of education and sport: let's build together a strong and sustainable school and university sport for a resilient Burkina Faso."

Nikieta Herve Ye, the provincial director in charge of Sports for Seno, emphasized that the theme transcends a mere slogan, serving as a call for unity, courage, and perseverance. Ye highlighted that amidst Burkina Faso's challenging circumstances, sport remains a vital factor of resilience, a haven for youth, and a symbol of collective resolve to create a better future. He further noted that school and university sports offer a framework for instilling discipline and respect for rules.

Daouda Ganou encouraged the athletes to embrace values of courage, fair play, and excellence. The competitions involve ten schools from Seno, engaging in seven different disciplines. In the opening match, the Dori Provincial High School triumphed over the Dori Evangelical High School with a score of 2-1.
