Kaya: The priestly fraternity of diocesan priests of Burkina Faso and Niger have resolved to use social networks and artificial intelligence with discernment, at the conclusion of their 33rd General Assembly held in Kaya from April 14 to 17, 2026 under the theme 'The priest, sower of hope'. After 72 hours of discussions and fellowship, the 302 priests from various backgrounds in Burkina Faso and Niger concluded their general assembly with resolutions and recommendations to facilitate their mission as "sowers of hope".
According to Burkina Information Agency, several resolutions relating to strengthening personal spiritual life and participation in priestly fraternity to avoid isolation, improving local pastoral care and welcoming the faithful, and using social networks and artificial intelligence with discernment were adopted by the priests. The General Assembly recommends to the bishops the implementation of diocesan audits and the development of a charter on the use of digital technology in liturgy.
The fraternity of priests calls on the faithful to support them morally, spiritually and materially. The 33rd general assembly of the fraternity of priests was marked by prayers, conferences, cross-functional work followed by plenary sessions.
It was placed under the chairmanship of Bishop Prosper Bonaventure Ky, Bishop of Dedougou and President of the Episcopal Commission for the Clergy. This Assembly was attended by local administrative authorities and high dignitaries of the Catholic Church, including Philippe Cardinal Ouedraogo, Emeritus Metropolitan Archbishop of Ouagadougou, and Mgr Gabriel Sayaogo, Metropolitan Archbishop of Koupela, President of the Burkina-Niger Episcopal Conference.
