FESTIC 2026 to Explore Cultural Identities in Global Village

Ouagadougou: The 7th edition of the Festival of Cultural Identities (FESTIC) will be held from May 14 to 18, 2026 in the Ouidi district of Ouagadougou, around the theme "Cultural Identities in the Era of the Global Village", announced the Mobile Digital Cinema Africa (CNA Africa) on Thursday during a press conference.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Coordinator of CNA Africa, Wend Lassida Ou©draogo, indicated that this theme aims to examine the current dynamics of globalization and their impacts on cultural identities, while valuing the richness of heritage and contemporary creativity. The festival aims to contribute to the promotion and safeguarding of endangered cultural heritage, increase the level of knowledge of the population about the cultural values and expressions of the communities, and promote intercultural dialogue.

The Coordinator announced that, for five days, the public will be treated to a program, including the screening of 28 selected films from 16 countries, as well as the organization of a "Night of Resilience". This year, the Bissa community will be honored through screenings, exchanges, and a "Night of Resilience" dedicated to promoting its knowledge, practices, and cultural heritage.

Mr. Ou©draogo also indicated that the festival will include presentations and discussions on the history, customs, music, dance, crafts, and way of life of the Bissa people, as well as masterclasses and a panel discussion on cultural identities in the era of the global village. Five official prizes will be awarded.

He announced that screenings are planned in seven other districts, an exhibition of artwork by artisans from the Ouagadougou Craft Village will be organized, and new activities will be introduced in the children's area. Wend Lassida Ou©draogo invited the population to participate massively in this cultural event.

Since its creation in 2018, FESTIC has established itself as a space for promoting cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue, and encounters between peoples, generations, and artistic disciplines.
