Gourma: The High Commissioner of the Gourma province, Silas Nacanabo, initiated the distribution of inputs and agro-pastoral equipment for the 2026-2027 wet season. This event took place on Monday, May 11, 2026, in the presence of producers and agricultural technicians.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this operation aligns with the country's policy to invigorate the agro-sylvo-pastoral and fishing sectors and to enhance food sovereignty. The provincial director in charge of Agriculture, Salifou KonfE, stated that the inputs and equipment provided to the producers are subsidized by the Burkinabe State, with prices differing based on the producer categories.

The inputs have seen a slight increase in speculative stock prices this year. Large producers are required to pay 17,000 CFA francs for a 50 kg bag of NPK and the same amount for urea. In contrast, small producers are charged 15,000 CFA francs for a 50 kg bag of NPK and urea. Additionally, a 15 kg kit for one hectare is available for 3,000 CFA francs, and the 10 kg sorghum kit for one hectare is priced similarly. An 8 kg cowpea kit for half a hectare is provided for free to women.

Ir¨ne Kafando, an internally displaced person in Fada N'Gourma, expressed her satisfaction upon receiving the subsidized agricultural inputs. She noted that the subsidized costs enable vulnerable producers to access significant quantities of inputs, which would not have been possible through marketplace purchases. She extended her gratitude to the authorities for the support.

Silas Nacanabo encouraged producers to utilize the subsidized agricultural inputs and equipment appropriately. He emphasized the importance of staying in regular contact with agricultural technicians to ensure a successful campaign. Furthermore, he cautioned against the resale or misuse of the subsidized seeds and equipment.

Lastly, the High Commissioner called upon mobile operators responsible for money transfers related to the payment of agricultural and pastoral inputs and equipment to remain accessible, ensuring that producers can acquire their needs promptly.
