K©n©dougou’s Collective Wedding Ceremony Unites 87 Couples in Samogohiri

Samogohiri: The Grand Imam of Samogohiri, Sinari Ouattara, officiated the union of 87 couples in a public square near the mosque on Thursday, May 14, 2026. This event marked the 2026 edition of the locality's collective marriage ceremony.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the town was lively from the morning as families, guests, and visitors from various areas gathered for the ceremony, an annual event that strengthens community ties. Grand Imam Sinari Ouattara stated that this was the fourth edition of the event in this format, aimed at enhancing social cohesion.

The Imam noted that the shift from neighborhood-specific collective weddings to a single joint celebration was made four years ago after consultations highlighted organizational challenges and financial burdens on families. This unified approach helps families minimize expenses and fosters unity among residents.

Siaka Traor©, also known as Asec, emphasized that the ceremony, while religious, remains ingrained in local customs. He mentioned that traditional initiations, known as "k¨n¨ k¨n¨," were historically held in collective settings.

Newlyweds expressed joy and satisfaction after receiving their religious blessings. The ceremony concluded in a spirit of brotherhood, blessings, and community celebration.
